Stevo Simple Boy Wants KSh 5 Million from Kenyans for Son’s First Face
The rapper, well known as “Dragon wa Africa”, is extremely keen on fatherhood privacy. Popular Kenyan rapper and creative Stevo Simple Boy has in a significant way, shaken the digital entertainment space after boldly announcing that it will take corporate entities or local media houses a staggering KSh 5 million before they will be allowed to officially unveil his newborn son’s face to the public.
The money-for-reveal ultimatum is a few months after Stevo and his partner, Brenda, happily welcomed their first child, whom they lovingly called Dragon Junior.
From Secrecy to Big Reveal: baby’s face
With Brenda delivering a baby boy safely after a pregnancy that was followed in the media and a gender reveal, the couple at first pledged to completely keep the child away from the public. Among the first who expressed that they will go to great lengths to protect the child from the harsh and toxic scrutiny of celebrity social media networks was Brenda, who just recently stated the same.
Not only that but after the fact, Stevo Simple Boy plans to create a buzz and make it a marketing asset for the baby’s first public appearance online. The well-known Freshi Barida hitmaker believes that since his son was born, he has been a star, and whoever may want to be associated with that star for the purposes of marketing or media attention, on the contrary, must be ready to pay.

Daring the norm of the creator industry:
Stevo Simple Boy’s call is a wake-up call to the model of monetization in the creator industry that is causing quite a stir in Nairobi. On one hand, fresh heroines and heroes of the digital scene like Crazy Kennar have been so kind to share their newborns’ faces online so that the old cultural taboos are broken, while on the other side is the view that children’s first public appearances are huge commercial opportunities.
What Stevo is doing by giving a KSh 5 million price tag to Dragon Junior’s big reveal is just another way of him figuring out his market worth and commercial power. If a brand or a local media house takes it, it could be the start of a big new thing, as local creators would then be able to monetize personal milestones on the internet.
Would You Pay to See the Big Reveal?
Unsurprisingly, news like this divides the comment sections on several entertainment channels. While some of the artist’s loyal fans celebrate Stevo for actually treating his family as a very valuable corporate brand, others argue that the price is very unrealistic in the current digital climate, and some even say that it is a deliberate viral publicity stunt just so that his name remains trending on the blogs.
While corporate entities are unveiling their marketing budgets in order to see if there is anyone who is willing to give the millions required to get the exclusive first photo of Dragon Junior, the public is immensely intrigued.
